RECYCLE FOR EARTH by KinderCycle
Date : 05.05.2016
Time : 8.30 - 10.30 am
Venue : Tadika Iltizam Cemerlang, Parit Raja
Greetings earthlings! We truly apologise for the delayed update :( We hope to receive your endless support and love. Without further due, let's get into it!
Our crew started the journey to the kindergarten from Perwira Residential College at 8 am. About 15 minutes later, the six of us were welcomed warmly by the children as soon as we stepped into the compound. Our project leader, Ahmad Faisham took charge of setting up the compound for the activities later on while the Syazwina and Mariana gathered and prepared the children for our very first activity.
Breaking the ice
"Hello everyone, we are KinderCycle!", we yelled on top of our lungs to make sure that all the attention is on us. The children placed stares on us, curious of who we are and what we are going to do next. Faisham initiated the self introduction followed the rest of the group members.
Talk Green
It is time to refresh on the basics! We kick-started the programme with a brief talk on the importance of recycling followed by the ways to recycle waste. Ya'qub highlighted on the effects of excessive waste around us. The children were given a treat when we decided to satisfy their eyes with the infamous animation, Boboiboy half way through the talk. The deviation really did help them in focusing on the rest of the talk.
Cycle Hunt
You heard it! It is Cycle Hunt, a treasure hunt-themed activity where the children were divided into groups of six. Each group were assigned to collect as much rubbish as they can from the compound. The group which collects the most rubbish will win the game and be awarded. After the collection, the children gathered the waste and separated the three main materials ; plastic, paper and glass. (No worries, there wasn't any glass around the compound, no individuals were harmed during the conduct of this activity.)
Let's Fold!
We carried on with an easy handcraft activity for the children. Each of our group members facilitated the children separately. We guided them in making a weaved bookmark using paper strips that were prepared beforehand. The children were surprisingly showing a huge amount of interest in this activity when the children would crowd all over the KinderCycle crew when we demonstrated the tutorial. They were also told to gift the bookmark to their mothers as Mother's Day was just a few days away.
Thank you and Sayonara
We wrapped up the programme with a closing ceremony conducted by Faez. We took turns in presenting the souvenirs to the children and the caretakers as well. The smiles on the faces of the children and their high-pitched laughs really did warmed our hearts and we hope to visit again in the future.
Here is a little recap of what we did during the project.
Put on your earphones, sit down and enjoy!
Love,
KinderCycle
